Default t-bird unlocking

Has anyone read an article on the new nforce2 boards unlocking the t-birds? I was just playing around in my bios and decided to see if i could change the multiplier from default and bump the fsb up to 166. Well it worked. im running 9x166 right now. running at 1500mhz. I just wanted to know if this is possible or am i just reading thngs wrong. I have a epox 8RDA+ MB.

If you can change the multiplier, it worked.

Most of the nforce boards will unlock at least some of the multipliers. Depends and the BIOS and number of bits of the frequency ID. And the cpu installed. The early Leadtek for instance didn't unlock anything. My Asus with 4 bit frequency ID with a Athlon 2600+/333 will unlock the lower but not the upper multipliers. I've read with certain cpu's on the same board only the upper multipliers are unlocked. The Abit board has a 5 bit frequency ID and will unlock all the multipliers, upper and lower, on the same 2600+ cpu.

Thanks AniM for the info. I new the would unlock the multipliers on the newer XP chips. I was just surprised to see it do it to my 1.4 thunderbird.

edit: blue screened at 8x200 after the boot screen. dropped it back down it 166x8.5. running at 1417mhz and cool. i have a fan blowing in my case case the house is warm.

Mav, I have to say that you would be the very first person I have ever heard about running a 1.4 with a 200 FSB without using an extreme cooling setup. And I stay pretty abreast with the OC news. That is impressive.

What about you AntiM, have you seen this before with a 1.4 T-Bird?

EDIT: I realize that it is attributable to the board, but impressive, nonetheless.

Pretty darned impressive. And no BA I haven't.

Gotta luv a platform that can give you that kind of performance and so effortlessly. And be able to do it at a very reasonable price.

It was all a fluke. I was fiddling around with settings to get the feel of my new baord and ram and saw that i could change the multi. From there its history.

Could you crank the FSB back up to 200 and take some MBM pics? Those may be worthy of PR news.

Here you go BA. I threw in another progam in the pic to show the multi. As you can see though it say's 3.75x400. Which is 7.5x200 which i have it set at in the bios.

Just an update on my temp. My cpu is down to 36C this morning. Mainly because I sleep with the windows open all night and it got down in the 60's here. But im still running a 200mhz fsb.

So am I. I didnt even gradually climb to it. I jump to 166. Ran it for a while, then bumped it up to 200. The one thing I did notice is that I was only running at 1493mhz this morning. I thought it was strange but i didnt have time to check it out before leaving for work.

EDIT: forgot to add that im running at default voltage.

Just thought Id post and update. Still running at 1500mhz with a 200mhz fsb. Stays about 42C during the day idle. After playing a game it gets up to about 45C and at night it goes below 39C.

Time for another update. Found out why i could get up to a 200mhz fsb. it was because i was only running the ram at cas3. I bumped it to cas2 and it wouldnt boot. bumped the fsb down to 166 and the multiplier to 8.5 and its running good.
