Default UPDATE: OEM vs. Retail

ok well, i was at the local frys today

dicided to get the 2500+ OEM

it was 10 bucks cheaper, and i dont really have money out that A$$ so i went with the OEM, havnt put it in yet

i have a Volcano 7......will that be enough to cool this beast of a barton????? it says that it will suport up to 2.0 ghz, and the 2500 runs at 1.87 ghz...............and i put it in another computer and it was running around 135deg, to 140 deg

is that too hot????

if so, what fan would yall suggest would be the best? correction the heatsink that i can get the most out of for the little money.
i have a gigabyte ga-7vaxp, and they dont have mounting holes (stupit dicition on gigabytes part) so i cant have any major heatsinks

so whats the best for the buck that will work with my 2500+

whoah d00d, thats really hot, first did you use thermal paste? It should not be running that hot.
I have a volcano 7+ which is similar with a barton 2800, I have also ran it with a oc' xp2200 and my temps have always been under115 on full load.
I use like almost everyone else Arctic Silver 3 and my temp right now running 24/7 with F@H under 100% load is 109 F, if the room Im in is warm it'll go to 111.
If I havent cleaned the dust build up in my fans and case it hits 114.
Like I said in another post though everyone here swears by the slk-700 which you cant get at Fry's , at least you cant here in Cali.

go to svc.com and get either the slk700 or the slk800 and a decent CFM 80mm fan for it.

Definitely the Thermalright's. But I'm with NoSlak, that's too hot. It may not be seated properly. It's not on backwards is it? Not a dig, I've seen it happen. Even with cheap silicone paste it shouldn't be that hot.

Cut that little thermistor out(green thing) and either connect the wires, or better yet, wire in a rheostat to control it.
