| Oc is never a good thing when you don't what your doing, but safe levels of oc'ing are safe and stable, make sure to keep your CPU and other things like chipset memory and caps cool though. And the vid card issue check for a bios update and make sure that your drivers are updated as well. GL, and if I said already i'll say it again Welcome to PR. Edit : check out the OC forums and the others i' v never oc'd a 64 before. Last edited by anime-fan-man; 26-March-05 at 02:06 PM.. | ||

| Sounds like you have tried all the usual tricks for getting 8x to work right, have you tried reinstalling the drivers? Make sure you remove them the proper way and use driver cleaner before installing the new ones. Has it been a while since you formatted? I know it suxors, but that usually fixes odd issues like this when other options don't work. You should be able to run at least 2.3~2.4GHZ unless you realy have a bad one, or realy weak cooling. I'm going to guess you will need around 1.55 to 1.6v, for the CPU, 2.8 to 2.9v for the memory, 1.6-1.7v chipset, and 1.6-1.7v AGP. Set your memory timings fairly loose (3-4-4-10) the LDT to 4, and start raising the FSB in 5MHZ increments initialy, then 2MHZ at a time as you get close to 2.4ghz. Test for stability after each change with Super Pi, and then let it run Folding@Home or Prime 95 for a while. Here is a more deetailed version.. http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=38227 EDIT: Just noticed you have the stock cooling, you might not get too far...I would suggest replacing that with a Zallman CPNS 7000 AL/CU for under 40$, or the all copper version for a few bucks more ![]() http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...118-118&depa=0 ![]() Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 26-March-05 at 02:08 PM.. | ||

| You have the exact same CPU/Mobo setup as I do (same hard drive as my storage drive aswell). I have 2X512MB Kingston ram, runs CAS3. I changed my FSB to 225 from 200 and put it on Turbo setting. I also raised my voltage from 1.5v to 1.55v. I've found overclocking to be easy. BTW, you can also use ClockGen to raise the FSB. It locks the system up if you change anything like the multiplier or voltage. | ||

There is a program that you can use to update your Bios through windows...WinFlash. Be very carefull and follow directions carefully, you can wipe the Bios chip clean if it goes bad. There are a few threads if you do a search in the archives (Try Bios Flashing) .NET drivers will require a win update to use, you have to add the .NET framework..but I don't realy think it will fix your problem, but it might be worth a try. When you go to ATI to download the drivers, they will have a special version listed. https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...asp?deptID=894

I recommend you leave it at x4. The general consensus seems to be that there's no performance effect by switching. If it bugs you a great deal why you can't achieve x8, maybe you need to prove its your comp by trying the card in another machine? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
