Default How hot is too hot?

My A64 3500+ is running at 2530mhz (230x11 - 1.625v) and is capping out at 59 degrees C.

Im getting a little nervous about the heat.... The HSF is a Zalman 7000A-AlCu...
anybody know where temp charts are located or how high I should let it get before stopping?

Thats to hot man.. NOT GOOD! you wanna stay under 50C for sure... But it dont seem right that your chip is running that hot! What are you using to read your temps?

Max is 65C or 70C ("max" as in - dear lord, i hope i didn't just fry my proc) : http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/cont...docs/30430.pdf
stats start on page 11.

more cule linkage: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...9_7203,00.html

your temps are hot...if it's an accurate/close to accurate reading, ya might want to consider backing off the OC (i'm not much of an over clocker....but d4mn, man....them are some mighty warm temps ya got there).

Have you flashed the bios on your mobo, or are you running the bios it came with? On all 3 of the mobos i've owned in the past year (Asus, Abit, DFI), i've gotten screwy temps (onboard monitoring) until i flashed the bios.
Although, if i've read your post correctly, it appears that you've bumped up your volts to the CPU, so those temps may indeed be accurate-ish.
EDIT:
What is the temperature of the room that your comp is in?

My Folding load temps have been about 60*C on my XP2600, stock speeds too, on a Jet 7+ at full bore.

Ya, but didn't the ambient temps in your room qualify as: "sweltering h3ll"?

Sweltering hell is hardly the word for it, try Pyroclastic Flow

room temp is 70-72 (case airflow shouldnt be a problem)
BIOS is up to date
im using Asus probe to get the temps
and even at that voltage my machine was still unstable... Prime95 failed after just 2 hours
i backed it off to 225x11 - 1.575v (2470mhz)
we will stay here, im not willing to risk the life of my $300 chip for a few frames
temps are maxxed at 53 C now...
thanks for the help, but any quick fixes on lowering temps? i have LOTS of case airflow...
I have my 6800 GT clocked @ 400/1100, I have had it higher without probs, but since ive started OCing my CPU, the GPU seems less stable... and as soon as i order my NV5, that should help exhaust hot air from the GPU...
Until then, Im happy here..

Thanks

Probably the easiest/quickest fix (although not the most pleasant) would be to lower the ambient temp. in the room that your comp is in....open a window (if you have cooler temps in your neck of Missouri). You don't have to open it wide, just a crack may suffice if you also close off the heat to that room. Let us/me know how you like the NV 5, and good luck with it.

Im in the US Air Force and Im now located in New Mexico
Window is ALWAYS open, but today it was about 70*F outside, nice day, but not cool enough for my Athey :-)
NV5 will be on order as soon as i get my refund money from Newegg.... I will post results...
Thanks Again

I've had my sempron as high as 120 degree's C during some botched thermal paste jobs and she's still kicking today .

I guess the moral of the story is its exposure to high temps for long periods that makes these cpu's die rather than the temp. Having said that though according to AMD i tihnk their supposed to die at 85, which means I'm living on borrowed time.

In the infinite words of Bill & Ted: "Don't fear the reaper!!!"

You might wanna try re-seating your Heatsink...Maybe your not getting good contact? This has happened to me before.

Im 46 idle and about 61 load(adding 120mm side intake). A bit high, but when I get the 120 it should take my temps down a bit.

What type of board do you have? I have an MSI and the original BIOS it came with had a HUGE glitch in the Corecell temp measuring. It was saying that my proc was 61C and then once I got the BIOS update it dropped to 29C. So it might be that or your tmp gauge...

What kind of thermal compound are you using? Might I suggest Arctic Silver 5

Good try, but already asked & answered.

Have you lapped the HS?
