| Ok, I'm an OC'n n00b that is wanting to crank my system up to the 3Ghz range and all help in this matter will be GREATLY appreciated. My system hardware is as follows: AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (754 Socket) ASUS K8N-E Deluxe 2 x 512GB Corsair XMS PC-3200 w/ Platinum Spreads (will be upgrading to 2GB very soon) MSI Radeon X-800 Pro Koolance PC-720BK case w/ watercooling With the current bios, I can auto OC the system 10% which gets me to a whopping 2.52Ghz. I'm wanting to blow past this, but for some reason anytime I manually set the FSB to >225 the OC fails. I've tried adjusting the core voltage to stabilize with no luck. Like I said earlier... I'm an OC n00b, so please explain your suggestions in a way that a first timer could understand. Also, when it comes to RAM Cas.. I don't know jack about what is good and what is bad.. Also... probably a VERY stupid question.. but can I fit my 3400+ skt 754 processor into a skt 939 board? | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | I'm not sure about how far you can OC but regarding the CAS of the rams etc, you will be looking for the lower number generally. For pc3200 2:2:2:5 would be the best Timings you could get from the ram. May I ask why you need more than 1024mb of ram? No you will not be able to use your cpu on a s939 board. | |

| 2.5 Is a decent overclock. We need more info like the psu ur using, memory timings, voltages your running, temps, are you running serial ata drives? A weak or generic PSU can kill an OC Loosen Up your memory timings Maybe up the voltage on the core and memory a little more if your cooling can handle it Most NF3 boards overclock better with SATA drives Temps can kill a OC | ||

| OK, here is the information that you are all requesting. MGE 500W Vigor PSU 120GB SATA HD 160GB SATA HD 23degrees C idle 29degrees C load I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Loosen up your RAM timings" Does that mean to increase or decrease the numbers? and by what amount to start with? In regards to the need for more RAM.. I run high end apps for school and require large amounts of RAM. Thank you for all of your help on this, I appreciate it. | ||

| I just noticed that the voltage showing in CPU-Z is incorrect. My current CPU voltage is 1.750. I upped the FSB to 233, but can't get it to go any higher without it crashing on me. I adjusted my RAM to 3 4 4 8 (from 3 3 3 8) and ended up with a core speed of 2563 MHz. Would really like to get knock it up another 500Mhz if possible. Also, current temps are 26C idle - 29C load. | I seriously need to sit down and write a AMD 64 OC guide.. Try these memory timings CAS 2.5-4-4-10 Increase voltage to memory to 2.8v You also might need to make other adjustments such as LDT Your current settings: HTT is 230 (FSB)x5(LDT)=1150MHZ There can be stabilty issues for the HTT above 1000MHZ so try this: 230FSB x4(LDT)=920 HTT The nuber 4 LDT will work up through 250FSB, and LDT 3 will work from 250FSB to well past 300. When you find your max FSB, HTT, and max GHZ, then you can begin to tighten the memory timings (CAS 2-2-2-5 is considered "Tight"... CAS 3-4-4-8 would be "loose") Oh and what are you using to achieve load temps? they seem a bit low. Folding@Home (PR is team 596) and Prime 95 are the torture tests I use to test for stabilty ![]() Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 11-February-05 at 08:43 PM.. | ||

| Ummm... where did you come up with this "Your current settings: HTT is 230 (FSB)x5(LDT)=1150MHZ" The reason I ask is the only options I have for my LDT are 1-4.. I don't have a 5 setting In regards to the voltage increase for the memory, the max I can crank the voltage to on my memory is 2.7v (which I already have it at). After dropping the LDT to 3, I am still unable to get above the 233FSB mark. In regards to the programs used to determine load temps... I use Prime95, PCMark05, 3DMark05, and F@H simultaneously. The temps are right... I just have a very nice cooling system. I do want to thank everyone for their time in this matter. | ||

I did a bit more research on your board, and it looks like getting above 230FSB is gonna be rough. In this one review, over 220FSB was not stable. http://www.ocworkbase.com/reviews/13...view_trans_am/ There is a huge thread on it, I don't have time to read the whole thing ATM, maybe you can find some answers there. http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...readid=1356285 I don't know why you don't have a 5 LDT option, I did see something about that in the links above though. There maybe be a custom, or updated bios that will help, it would be great if it gives you more memory voltage, they realy need at least 2.8v to OC well. You might want to set the AGP at 67MHZ to lock it, according to this review http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/...ds/1472_4.html | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Oh man, thanks for the help. This thread may just give me the answers I'm looking for. If I came across rude in my last post, I appologize.. I didn't mean to. I just reread what I wrote and it sounded kind of bad. I have a feeling that this forum has just become my new home. Thanks again for all of your help Necro. Also, I posted my results sheet for the Ultimate Benchmarking Challenge thread that you had posted... it looked a little old, but I figured I would go ahead and post my results anyways. | ||
