| Banned | I'm using a 3.4EE it's fast ...very happy with it. (max OC 4403) But I want SLI I have been looking at the FX55 with the MSI or Asus. (suggestions needed) I see they still use DDR not DDR2 (save some money )I'm looking for someone that has/had top end intel and changed? Is the FX55 faster? can it do everything the EE can do? Right now with my EE @4gigs 24/7 I can recode a dvd on one monitor and play HL2 or Doom3 on the other NP. I tried that on a A64 3000+ with koolance and the DVD's kept being messed up and the game was choppy. No bashing please Just looking to up-grade in the next couple weeks and leaning towards take 55. Thanks | |

| The FX-55 is plain amazing and if you wait a little bit the newer 90 nm cores with the "E" stepping are due out, which means less power, heat, and hopefully better overclocks. I have an FX-55 in the family of "play with" PC's from friends and I can say that nothing surprised me more with its performance. It truly is worth the 800 dollar price tag. I figured that it would be a little better than my almost 4 gig Intel, but it was in another league. The P.4 EE is lacking in my opinon, and when you compare overclocks and benchmarks the regular Intel "E" holds its own. Now with the AMD its a little different. I have an AMD 3000+ 90 nm in house, and when fully overclocked with air cooling is scored 12,805 in Sandra Dhry. 2005 CPU test. Now...the FX-55 at only 2.845 scored over 13,000 in the same test, and although the AMD chip I had was geting close to its max this 55 CPU had another 300 or 400 MHz in her easy. (If you got the cooling) Want another...31, 000 in 3DMark2001 SE, compared to 27, 980 for the AMD 3000+, and Only 26,503 with my Intel at 3.9 (give or take here, all test had the same GPU though, X/800 XT, and X/800 XT PE) So if I were you and I had the money and "need" the FX-55 is the king. But if you like muiltitasking and video editing then the Intel is still amazing. I am always doing at least 3 things at one time unless playing one game (things still in the background though) and with AMD crashed more often than with Intel. So if you got the money go with it man. I know I would. But, considering what you have I think unless you really got alot of extra money noticing a huge improvement is not going to be really possible., but you will notice an improvement if you get your FX-55 over 3.0 Check out the PR Ultimate Benchmark Challenge thread as it may give you some ideas and help you out in chosing. | The reason Intel feels so strong is because it has "Hyperthreading" wich acts similar to having 2 CPU's handling the load, or "Multithreads" in programming terms. AMD FX-55 does not have this, but it will drop a Pentium 4EE on it's ass when it comes to gaming, you just have to decide wich is most important. The FX-55 is certainly more capable than the 3000+ at doing this thanks to more (1MB) Cache, Dual Channel memory, and faster clock speeds. The best option would be to wait a bit longer for the FX-57(2nd Quarter this year) it will be dual core on a single chip. This will solve the multitasking issue for AMD and will be worth the wait. The DFI Lan Party SLI is the best socket 939 for overclocking BTW, and the FX-57 will work in that board. | ||

| The 512 extra cache helped alot in Sandra I think, but in the 3DMark/Real World gaming tests it was the sheer higher clock speed thanks to the strained silicon that both AMD and Intel uses. I am sure that if I could of goten the AMD 3000+ up and over 3.0 gigs then they would be close in alot of applications. And they would of course be better for gaming and faster when only using one program. Last edited by SpikeShot; 04-August-05 at 08:15 PM.. | ||

| Banned | Thank you both For the good solid answers.I was wonderingÂ….they look real good. Just wasnÂ’t sure it they could do everything at once. My EE gets 13K sis at only 3865 900fsb at 4 gigs (where I keep It most of the time) It gets just over 14500 in sis cpu. And I already break 30K in 3D 2001 I think I will get that FX-55 and go to FX-57 when it comes out. Maybe I will keep both for awhile just incaseÂ…..game on the FX and work on the intel? But I will put the FX on vapo cooling Thanks again! Last edited by Beast_USA; 12-February-05 at 01:56 AM.. | |

| Have you taken a shot at my Ultimate Benchmark Challenge then? 30K on a 01 is pretty damn good, I was getting 26K from my little Sempron 3100+(2.4+GHZ and X-800 Pro at 600x600. My next rig is underway, a Cryo cooled FX-55/ SLI 6800 Ultras..so bring it on! http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=15065 | ||

The bfg geil ultraX got my aqua over 100K I might build that FX in the next couple of weeks. They are looking real good. either bfg dual 68U's or leadteks. Takes me awhile..LOL I look for as much good input I can get first.

| I dumped the 50 post rule for all but the top "Uber Pimp" spot, Because there are some pretty fast machines (Macci or Oppainter for instance) out there that could walk in and take that spot real easy. This challenge is supposed to be for members that are involved in our community here, and that is the only reason, I just want to make sure people arent "Pop tarts" and then disapear after 2 posts back to there reguar forums. Very nice score BTW! ![]() | ||

My thoughts exactly. If you show an active or so life in the forums here and seem to be a nice guy the top spot is all yours from my point of view. But, a guy with 20 posts who shows up every month or so with a post don't cutt it for me. Now SOLID is the leader of the show here, but I am the uberpimp right now and I would not be happy given it up to newbie member with more money than brains that got a better score! Ya sure I could sell my car and buy all the cool stuff SOLID is geting, but I enjoy overclocking the low end stuff to tie and beat the high end parts. To me, that is ever more rewarding. And this is not referring a particular member at all, including beast. Last edited by SpikeShot; 04-August-05 at 08:15 PM..

I am taking the loan money I was gonna use to buy a new car, I just kinda went off the deep end The original plan was to take back the top spot with a SLI DFI 3200+ and a pair of cheap 6800's all on air. Then Redigreen jumped in with a FX-55 ASUS and SLI 6800gt's that is cleanin up in the 3DMARK 05 thread on water.. Zenn went Pro, building Cryo Cooling sytems...next thing I know, all 3 of us end up jumpin on his crazy Phase Train too! ![]()

| Banned | I'm 46 dam old I know......but it used to be cars....dump 20K in a motor...miss 2nd gear (you know shifting no clutch) and BOOOM cracked, blown or maybe complete junk ![]() So I waste a little money on my systems but it is still less then 1/4 of the cost of one bad shift And the police are never chasing you LOL And I haven't posted in any of the 4 forums I go to. I have been out of the loop for about two and half months because my dad had a heart attack. He's getting better and all is good so back to having some fun. My kids tell me that Fry's & that internet store (newegg & jab-tech) are to me what a drug store is to a drug addict...LOL.....OK but mines cheaper! I won't kill me or get me fired ![]() | |

| Faster is always better in my book...But the faster it runs the more hot it runs.... Like my Hemi runs hot and fast but so dose my Intel...But from what I have herd AMDs are frying pans when it comes to heat...Never had a AMD but am looking into one for my next rig...Depends if AMD can hit the 3Ghz mark or not................... ![]() | ||

Uh, yeah. Very nice. Can we get a pic or two of that rig? That's quite a bit more than most members can afford (or my...I mean their wife will allow them to spend). It would be nice to see a power system like that.
