Default Weird Problem, Please Help

I am having the exact same problem that this guy has: http://www.aoaforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19840

He hasn't come up with a solution, and I can't either. If I plug my IDE drives in, my computer won't go through its post, if I unplug 'em, it works fine. I have very similar specs to this guy too:

Epox 8rda3+
AMD XP 2500+M [200mhz x 12 = 2200mhz]
512 MB Geil PC-3200
2 x 80gb SATA in Raid0
2x IDE Optical Drives...

I don't understand why this weird **** is happening, if I hadn't found that article, I probably would have never gotten past post at all, now I can start up windows... but ... you know... CD_ROMS are useful....

Please Help.

that's a good idea, i'll definitely try that. the problem being though, that even if the computer would be able to use optical drives within windows, i would never be able to reinstall windows...
it's a weird problem all together...
at least the computer is working though, i'm happy about that.

Did you verify that the cable(s) and the HD are good? If you can, RMA the board back.

Did I see an AMD XP 2500 mobile CPU? There may be compatibility issues when using a mobile processor. Try replacing it with a different regular cpu used in destops not laptops.

Maybe this is an IRQ error. Improper IRQ setting can range from random shutdowns to BSOD's or a complete inability to boot. I'd also say check the jumpers on your IDE devices to make sure they're not both a Primay master or something. But otherwise, I couldn't tell ya, i've had problems come really close to the one you're expreiencing, but it was the fact that my mobo hates it's USB-Legacy device emulation ability, so it acts like a dog with it on, you could try maybe disabling legacy devices just for the hell of it.

It seems somehow the IDE cable got screwed up in the process. I swapped it out and now my optical drives work again - I guess the problem just seemed so odd to me because switching out the IDE cable was the last thing I tried. Normally my philosophy when fixing computers orbits around the concept that hardware rarely goes and that problems normally arise from human error. I probably acidentally tore a strand of the old IDE cable in frustration, so I guess my philosophy still works.

Thanks for all the help anyway.
