Default New system.. Advice wanted..

Hey everyone.

I am building a new system for myself, and wanted to get some input on what I have so far. The system is being designed for gaming purposes.

I have listed below what I am thinking on putting together, but could use some advice on memory and cooling, and whether or not the set-up I am thinking on getting is good or not...

Here goes..

AMD Athlon 64 3500+
ASUS "A8V Deluxe" VIA K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939
XFX nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Video Card
SAMSUNG 120GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive

Thank you in advance!!

I'd wait for more SLI boards to come out and then get an PCI-E 6600GT. Everyone's talking about Patriot RAM or something like that with the TCCD chips. Seems to be good memory. A Zalman 7700 would be a great cooler if it fits. What's your budget and how soon do you need the PC?

Thanks for your fast reply.

My budget I would say will be around 1k. I would like to start getting the PC together within the next couple of weeks, but if there is better stuff just around the corner, then I dont mind waiting =)

The PQI above has the Samsung TCCD, you can tell because its rated at CAS 2-2-2-5, same as the Patriot you are considering.
The Zally is a good choice if you have room, Coolmaster makes a good one, forgot the model number.

depending on the rest of your system, you might need a little more than 1k..
I've got ~1250 into my A64 system...

I like the system so far. A lot of pieces I've been eyeing myself. Don't forget to pick up a quality PSU, it's usually something people think about last

Antecs have always performed well.

TruePower

Good choices, but if you decide on the neopower you can get it cheaper here: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=270022

I saw that you started out with an Asus board, the A8N SLI and SLI Deluxe are also good boards. I dont know if have looked in to them. They also have the Nforce4 chipset. I just ordered one for my new rig last night. That is if you think that you will ever be going in the SLI direction. They are about the sam price as the K8N Neo4 Platinum. I thought that you may want to think about that since you have Video card that is SLI compatible.

Would the Asus board be a better pick over the MSI?
