Question xp barton 2800+ oc advice

ok i got my cpuz report, and like it says my multipliers are LOCKED. now should i do the L3 on the 5 trick to gain a higher oc by puting my multiplier at like 10-11. that would let me get my fsb higher right, for a better (not really higher)oc? im going to be going duel channel 512mb (256x2) for a total of 1gb of ram, not sure on the brand yet, any advice apriciated, the the price has to be resonable. i have one stick of pqi 512 @2.5-3-3-6 right now, its stock at 2.5-2-2-5. my vcore is 6% above defualt. my cooling is adiquite. i thank thats it?

The L3 mod has often allowed people to clock the FSB 10-20 MHZ higher, resulting in a higher over all clock speed. So yes, I would recomend it.

As far as the RAM, I would buy another 512MB stick of the same type and brand as you have now.

http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=13000 N-Force2 Overclocking guide.

U realise that runing dual channel won't reach as high FSB as single right?

And that a 256 stick runs at higher speeds than a 512 stick right?

Memory with Samsung TCCD inside (With BrainPower curcuit boards) is your best bet BTW, maybe you can sell what you have and get some?

And don't you mean L-12 mod? it only works on the NF-7, is that your board?

ya the L-12. i was looking through some other forums and found a mod that uses the L-3, but it must have been on a diffarrent chip, and i thought that dual channel was faster, would you mind explaing or giving me the link to the forum? so what your saying is sell my 512 and buy two 256's w/ samsung TCCD running induvidualy? MY board is the abit NF7-S2G , and if i do the mod will my mobo think my xp is a mobile? here is the link
ps.my computer doesnt boot if i go over 180 fsb, i have to clear the cmos.
thats why i need to unlock multiplier FROM 12.5
THANX

Have u ever tried CBID? This will tell you the exact date it was made, and should help you deteremine if its locked

I have thread in the archives about this mod (L-5) it is different than the L-12 mod I am speaking of, no one here has ever done it, let me see if I can find it.

And BTW..yes 2x 256 in dual channel is better than one 512 single generally speaking, but its not going to be that noticable, a few FPS in games maybe and nice benchmark scores. Dual chanel can increase 0-15% at best, most commonly around 5-10 % or so depending on the app.

Low latency timings also can increase framerates, but it pricey.
Increasing FSB speed will also improve frame rates if the timings are kept reasonable..that is why TCCD is so popular CAS 2-2-2-5 at 400FSB and can also run at CAS 2.5-3-3-8 at 500FSB

It just depends on what your goals are to justify the cost and hassle to upgrade to TCCD.

However, that is just for overclocking and benchmarking... 1 GB of memory total is generally the best choice if you play newer games, even if it is not low latency, or overclocks too the moon, new games just seem to crave 1GB of memory.

Sorry, can't get into more detail ATM, godfoot is waiting on me to play some RTCW ET
