Default Overclocking Gone Bad

I have a Abit NF7-S rev 2 and a 2500+ processor. I went to overclock the processor, and it failed. Now when I start up the pc all I get is a black screen. There are no BIOS beep codes. I went to clear the CMOS, but it still doesn't work. I am not positive I did it right though. Could somebody please guide me through the process or give me some other suggestions?

Thanks
-Higgs

The NF-7 is one of the more "Scary" boards around when it comes time to reboot.

It is very common on that board to kill the Bios chip when saving your new settings and rebooting.

They sell a Bios Savior, takes the anxiety off making changes.

I lost mine for a week one time, thought I had wiped it out.

Clear the CMOS for at least 2minutes.

Try unplugging the power supply overnight.

When you power up, hold the insert key, if the chip isn't dead, sometimes it will come back.

  • Unplug your machine from the wall let it sit for a couple minutes
  • take the battery out then wait a minute
  • put the battery back in
  • plug your power cord back in
  • press power button
If it doesnt work the first time unplug ur machine and wait for about 1/2 hour. Ive seen this with boards if you let it sit unplugged for around a half hour it will post just fine after clearing the cmos. The only reason i say you take the board battery out is it will reset everything. If you do get it to post it will prolly say cmos error enter the bios and put in your settings. Hopefully it will work the first time but if it doesnt try again.

darn necro beat me to it i was having problems with the forums it kept saying loading baners.pcapex.com and wouldnt let me type

I tried both of your suggestions and still haven't got it to work. Did I kill the board, or am I still doing something wrong?

My NF7-S has scared me allot of times, just follow the steppes to re-setting the bios. Even after that it may take 3or4 tries. Just today after re-arranging some wires I thought I killed my graphics card, the monitor wouldn’t come out of “power saving mode” But he rest of the system was booting up. After re-setting some stuff it booted up. Scary stuff. I have killed one before

try turning it on pressing insert 3 or 4 times. I believe its insert. Look at the mobo manual. If that doesnt work i doubt youve killed the board. Do any of the little leds on teh board light up do the fans spin does the psu turn on. Let me know so I and fellow PR members can give advice. You can im me on aim or msn mrjake22@hotmail.com or mrjake22.

Oh ya if non of this works give it a couple days im sure somebody has a solution if not then youll hafta end up gettin a new bios chip heres the linkage

Put the Jumper on the Clear pos.. Turn the Rig on. turn it right back off. Leave the Jumper on the Clear hit the Kill switch on the power supply on then off turn while the rig is on Hit the KIl Switch on the PSU again while the PC is on do that about 3 times.. Reset the JUMPER to the Normal Pos .. Bling! it will work ! ill put money on it.. I got that trick from the Abit guy on the phone.. It always workd for me.. Its called a Hard Reset. If you dont understand what i said.. Just give me a phone call ill walk you through it.. over the phone... 724-981-6155
