how can you tell if a CPU is locked before you buy it?

there is really no way to tell, if when you get it , you can use a program called CBi , i think... and that will tell you the date that is was made.............

Learn to read the manufacturer and stepping codes. There are sites all over the net that track that info and report on a chips capability.
