Counterfeit Athlon workshop found by Chinese Police.

A workshop for re-marking the Athlon CPUs to look like higher rated CPUs has been found in China with 1 man currently in custody. The chips have been said to have been shipped as far as Germany, and the number of chps recovered by the authorities was nearly a million just in the workshop, with a value in Chinese Yaun stretching into the 100'millions. (could be indicating they were high level chips).

In early 2003 AMD found out there were AMD Athlon XP microprocessors relabeled into higher-speed more expensive SKUs on the market. The Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro Devices quickly informed its partners in the channel about the issue and then implemented certain measures to secure its chips from counterfeiting in future.

as far as the re-marked AXP's go, with the 2500+ and 3200+ having the same multi and seeing as about 80% of the 2500+'s could do 3200+ speeds, I'm really not surprised that someone remarked them to resell at the higher price

ther was a guy that owned a computer repair store here that did something similar. people would bring in their comps to get the 'uber cool' upgrade package. all he would do is oc them a bit(bot new mobo) and charge for full price of new proc. was alot of money when yr talkin about the 400$ p4's

Was he dragged out of his shop and beaten by angry customers, apprehended by the authorities, sued by someone, or does he still do it?

What is the consumer to do? Most dealers say no return on CPUs.
And how do you tell if the AMD 64 is realy the AMD paid for?

yeah i was thinking the same thing. if you buy them 1000 at a time or more, you get a wicked discount.

id got to jail for assault

but i try to do what i think is right
