Default Overclocking.....Cyrix!

That's right. Cyrix 6x86MX PR-233 to be exact. I really should have posted this elsewhere, but It does have to do with overclocking, and Cyrix processors were pretty close to the K6's back in the day.

I want to see if I can get a Cyrix 6x86MX PR-233 processor (75mHz bus/2.5x multiplier/187mHz clock speed/2.9V) up to 233mHz. Originaly this little beast came with a small passive heatsink, but for this experiment I'm gonna strap on a heatsink with fan from a PIII Coppermine @ 850mHz. First thing you'll notice is the high voltage. I hope I don't have to up the Vcore to keep it stable.

Does anyone have any experience with these things? Cause I sure don't. Anything I should watch out for? Anything that is different from overclocking an Athlon Or Pentium?

According to this page:

http://www.hwupgrade.com/overclock/cpu/index11.html

I'm not going to be able to get it over 250mHz....

hahahahahaha!!!

My first rig I ever had was a K6-2, it was badass, 450mhz @ 550 2.6 volts, 256mb SDRAM and an ATi Rage Pro Turbo 8mb. Man those were the days, I got that card to do things it wasn't designed for, like playing Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed and Halflife. I had special tweaked drivers that allowed Porsche to run with see-through headlights, it was a tweaked Direct3D driver. I never got my first Voodoo until waaayyy later on about a year or so later when a Voodoo 3000 dropped by where I worked at the time and I took that baby home. Then I upgraded to a Radeon 9000, which I killed recently from modding, I miss that card

I'd still be interested in how far you can clock it. Post some results.

Best of luck to ya.

The Cyrix was pretty much maxed out.....that's why they were so much cheaper than Intel and AMD.

I used to have a Compaq with a Cyrix MediaGX at 180MHz with 40mb of 72pin SIMMs and onboard video. The CPU unfortunately was soldered directly to the mobo so I had to pry it off, it's a neat looking chip though so I've kept it =P But either way is was slow as hell at the time my Performa 6116 felt faster with it's 66MHz PPC601
