its going to depend on how old your cpu is. if its made before week 36 of 2003 then you're good to go. you can find out by checking the stepping code on the label of your cpu.

I thought it was week 34? I must of heard wrong. But yeah if its unlocked you can clock that puppy up a lil bit on the multi so you dont have to just push the Fsb up if you dont wanna overclock the ram aswell. Having a Unlocked chip just gives you a lil bit more options of what you do.. If its not unlocked you can still overclock it but just on the Fsb.

34-36 are hit or miss. there's some that are unlocked and there are some that are. everything after 36 is definetely locked

Actually, you're both wrong, it's week 39, but that doesn't even apply to him, he's not running a barton. That chip is likely a T-Bred A or B, either which way it's unlocked.

39? hmm things i was reading said 36 . .. oh well haven't found any between 36 and 39 so the point is moot for me

edit: found the site that has all the stepping code info: http://www.overclock.net/archive/index.php/t-172.html

All 2003 weeks 43 to 46 Bartons and Thoroughbreds are locked.
Some weeks 35 to 43 are locked, some are not, and that includes Thoroughbreds, Thortons and Durons.
There are rare cases of post 2003 week 46 unlocked Bartons and Durons.

Have you found out if its unlocked yet? if its not just move the Ext clock up lil by lil . run like a stress test to see if its stable like Prime95 or something.. if it is unlocked its up to you want you wanna do. FSB or Ghz..

Prime95 Download link..

http://www.computerbase.de/downloads...chung/prime95/

If you can run it for 15mins go back into the bios an overclock some more. But remember WATCH the temps an go slow on the clocks 1 to 3 Mhz of the Ext clock at a time..

Good luck man an have fun..

If it is locked you can buy an unlocking kit. That should solve one of your problems, but that board is a weak point and if you don't have good ram then thatÂ’s another one also cooling the list goes on and on. You really have to build a system with OCing in mind if youÂ’re going to do it.

if its the current locked ones, no unlocking kit will help you. ones being sold now are "superlocked" out of the factory.

hmm . .. kind of an old thread. thought we gave him the answer already
