Cool another possible 3ghz contender?

ok i am currenty at 2.7 ghz (14*193) with 24 hours of prime 95 rock solid
2.1 vcore and a 2.9 for the memory

im pretty sure my sig has all the components

i can have it boot at 2.8 14*200 but vcore is getting a lil high (2.25)
and i had no clue if it was stablle or not because i only ran prime 95 for 2 hours which is clearly not enough

just wondering if a different multiplier set up would do any good to get it higher.
for some reason the highest ive seen my fsb go up to is 230 on an 11 multi but i cannot get it higher than that on any other multi including the lows like 7 or 8.

any suggestions would be great

What kind of temps are you getting at 2.7GHZ?

Most people use water or cryo cooling to hit 3Ghz, If you are running into a wall at 2.8Ghz with that kind of voltage, I doubt you will get much farther without some cooling upgrades.

I am not trying to discourage you, but lower temps are the key to pushing it higher.
You should be quite happy with what you have, the best I can get out of mine is 2.6Ghz with 1.95v.

It doesn't matter wich FSB/Multiplier combo I use, 260x10 or 200x13, that is just the max for my CPU and cooling combo, any more and it becomes unstable under load, even with more voltage.
(DFI Lan Party, 2500+Mobile, Thermalright SP-97 and Geil DDDR500, Antec 550 watt P/S)

I will add that Zenn said he feels part of his success was due to the Uber Power Supply he uses, Having ultra smooth voltage signals that don't fluctuate under high loads can make a big difference when it comes to max OC.

Check it out HERE, it may get you a bit farther

Ty for replying so quickly

my temps at 2.7 idle are 41C and 46-47C load. i cant for the life of me see how lower temps than this will really help but i can see if they were higher that they could sway a stable OC. i dunno, ,aybe i could ge tthe dremel out and connect a blowhole to the SLK using 2 tornadoes? that should bring down the temps at least a little bit.

at this voltage and speed the temps used to be at 50 idle and 55 load but i cant say enough how much sleeving that antec true 480 really helped. (It was worth the burns on the fingers

on the point about zenn's uber PSU, as im looking at my rails atm i havnt seen a sway at this voltage for more than .01 volts. Is it also weird that my NF7-s doesnt undervolt? i thought they were known for this.

also would doing any volt mods help this oc? i liek the idea of more volts because these mobiles love it.

What are you using to check the voltage out on the mobo and PSU?

motherboard monitor 5 and the bios itself

kinda off topic: does anyone have a link for the Pr3ach3r Bios, im thinking it may help with overclocks, just a thought

off topic! but dont ever use that bios on the regular NF7 v2.0! it will work great till you have to reformat! an then all hell breaks loose. i found that out the hard way!

if anyone has any fixs to this problem pls PM me thanks.

Low temps are neccesary for massive Overclocks, how else can you explain a 100% OC on this 2.4 Prescott over at Akiba PC?

More voltage will not solve anything without lower temps, so Volt mods won't likely help your CPU, most volt mods for ABIT NF-7's involve juicing up the Memory voltage and NB voltage to increase the FSB.

As far as a power supply "Upgrades" go, it depends on how bad you want 3Ghz, getting it to 2.7-2.8ghz is the easy and cheapest part, the last 2-300 MHZ might cost more than what you have invested in it so far.

Some Pro's will "Test" a crapload of different CPU's before they find the 'Magic" one , sometimes a CPU just hit's the wall, no matter what temp or voltage they are at, they just won't budge.

Check out this article Macci wrote about "Cascade Cooling" it should give you an idea how far some people will go to get that last Mhz
