Question Mobo for 2500+M ocing

I've been reading up on mobos for a 2500+ Mobile Barton, and am having a few difficulties on what to get.

I'm new to AMD and have been hardcore Intel for years.. hence the problems.

Looking between these 3 (so far)

Gigabyte 7NNXP
DFI LanParty NFII Ultra B
MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR

I'm not sure which can handle ocing the 2500+ to 3200+.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

DFI Lan party NF2
DFI Infinity NF2
Shuttle AN35-ultra (not to familiar with that one)
or the tried and true Abit NF7-S....

All of those boards should support that, fairly minimal, overclock. The OC "best" board in that category is not on your current list IMHO.

The NF7-s is still king.

DFI made a run at it, but are far too flaky.

Abit ..... stable, reliable, fast, and highly overclockable.

Default Abit NF7-S 2.0

Even with the vid card/ram issue or the slot being so high up near the ps.. the NF7-S is still good?

Hrm.. may have to rethink the boards I'm looking at.
Would also cut the costs down.

NF7-S definitely...you will only experiance ram swapping issues if you have a long card like the 6800 or another oversize nVidia card. The DIMM slots upper levers will have plenty of clearance in any standard midtower, though my full tower has spoiled me, I am sure of this.

No problems with my 9800XT, all DIMM levers clear the card. Same goes for the upcoming ATi X800.

Well the more I read up on this board, the more I am impressed by it.

How about the cpu socket being so close to the edge of the board?
I'm thinking about putting in a liquid cooling system, just wondering if it will all fit.

And thanks for the replies, really finding a lot of great info on these boards.

dont worry, it will fit, as having 2 NF7's and having Friends havinig used this board in may configurations and they run like stink! good choice if you go that route

I've run both the Infinity and the Shuttle.

Shuttle-it'll do it. No frills.

DFI-it'll do it, but you may have a world of headaches beforehand (and sometimes afterward)

Currently have an Infinity, it's being stubborn...

For that, any of the boards will do it.

i was going to buy the lan party board till i did some research and ended up going with
the abit nf7-s and i love it, the bios is way easy to update, and im running my mobile
2400 @ 2233mhz and its very stable.
i will start playing with it more and see how high i can get it on air, but maybe water
or a/c will be the next step for more fun!

I have the DFI Lanparty NFII Ultra,(Not the rev B) and it's a great board. Broke the 3200 speed no problem at all. Some people have had probs with DFI, myself as well. My problem was I could never get my SATA drive to work with it. But as far as O/C goes. you bet. Just make sure you have decent RAM to handle the O/C. You never stated your budget either. The Shuttle AN35N is a good budget board.

Default Thanks

Well after reading all this, I'll be going with the NF7-S 2.0
Budget was never really an issue, heck I was about to drop $250 on the Gigabyte board. heh..

Ok so maybe no issue with budget isn't the best wording.. I can't afford a P4 or AMD64.

Either way, thanks everyone!!
I can tell this community will really be helpful in my project here.
Just starting with modding, so trying to figure out every detail before I go spending any cash.

Cis

So..you are willing to drop 250$ on a motherboard to put a 99$ CPU in it?

How about a 99$ Chaintech Motherboard and a Athlon 64 2800+ for 173$ (or 3000+ for 211$)

209$ buys you a 3.0GHZ Intel or 170$ for the local Overclocking favorite 2.4c

Oh and a 86$ ABIT Motherboard for it..I think this is the one the Intel guys use.

There are more options depending on your budget, the above combos are well under the 350$ it looks like you had budgeted...How much can we spend for ya?

Heh..

Well I roughly have around $1000 (CND) to spend.
I don't want to spend it all.. still need cash to live and all.

I was thinking about an Intel chip, but saw that most were pricey compared to the AMD's.
Plus wanted to try something different for once.

And this is more of a temp replacement for my old P3-800 box that crapped out on me about a month ago.

Later this year I'll be looking into newer processors and parts.

I just bought a mobo and P4 2.8c for 240 bucks off newegg.com.

AMD mobile BARTON 2600 at excaliberPC.com right here
and an Abit NF7-s here
and these folks have always been good to me. Quick package readied for shipping and they don't kill ya with shipping. And they will ship to Canada...
This particular combo with the right RAM and cooling has a potential of extreme high O/C's
