Nope, the stock cooler provides ample cooling. My 2100+ clocked at 2.7 runs the chipset at 31C load at 1.8v with a room ambient of 70F, like I said, ample cooling.

well it all depends on your definition of "alot of overclocking" if you are going to keep the voltage on the chipset below 1.9 volts, then you are probably ok with stock cooling. But if you are crazy like ZEN and pump 3 volts into the chipset, then you are going to need a better cooling solution.

personally I alway upgrade my chipset to a waterblock, on my older NF7-S (rev 1.2) adding a waterblock netted me 10 more hz on the FSB, but as always, not all components are equal!!! Adding a waterblock to my new NF7-S didn't gain me anything (yet) but I don't feel like I wasted my money. Cooler components are happy components.

just my 35 cents worth

What he said.

You don't really need it unless doing a VDD volt mod. You might not get much more juice out of it....but it gets hot at that high voltage. I did that to my bro's NF7-S and he's running the NB at 2.1V. I think stock cooling would be sufficient as far as the BIOS will allow you to go.

The northpole N/B cooler is really nice and well built, comes with a set of MOSFET H/S's as well for 40bux,shipped
I don't know if you are watercooling or not, if you are on air look at the NorthPole cooler...http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/minochcokit.html

What VDD mod method did you use to get 2.4? and did he see a substantial increase over 2.1-2.2? Kinda FSB is he getting?
All these volt-mods I've done and the ver"B" LanParty has them as stock setting in Bios, dammit....Where's My DFI,waaaaaa!!!
edit:hmmmm.

Heh. yeah I edited it. Got the vDimm and vDD mixed up. (although just 2 days ago we set that to 3.2) He's got some crappy RAM though. I think we'll have to throw my Mushkin L2's in there some time to see how far his 2500-M will go.

BH-5 loves the voltZZ 4 Sure...
Seen the setttings on the DFI lanparty boards yet?...BIOS look like a NASA project...I guess that's what happens when DFI hires away ABiT's top 3 engineers.
Man what would happen if I volted one of those?...
We may just get to see...

Yeah I've been trying to talk him into getting a DFI but he keeps complaining about being "broke" or something. bah.

I think I'll have to give that vtt mod a go, too, and see if that makes any difference. You're not really hardcore unless you've got little wires crisscrossing your motherboard.

P.S.--I love this chip. It's alot more fun than this 2.4C I've got. I'm gonna be so bummed if he starts benchmarking better than me.

Probably not, but you could remove the cooler, clean off the goop that's already there & use a better quality thermal grease
