if his is brown that means it's a t-bred. the green means yours is a barton. so his would have to go an extra 33 mhz to just reach yours at stock fsb

i think the color thing has been proven wrong many times, i believe it depends on where its made and or the date its made but not if its a barton or not

Well up the vcore to 1.9v and then clock it to the fastest FSB you can get it too. After you have done this get sandra (SiSoft Sandra) and run the burn in wizard all night long. Then in the morning (or when ever you have time) try and see if you can get further on your o/c

You did get a mobile 2500 right.....no.....bad choice, if I were you I would RMA it and exchange it for a mobile. You mentioned that it is from newegg so not only will they not give you any crap about doing so but I think the mobile is cheaper.

Nope its not cheaper, the Mobile version is 94$ The regular version is only 80$

You said you have 512 Corsair Ram at stock timings, but did not mention what speed.
If he has PC2700, that was designed to run at 166FSB, and if you are using stock timings and voltage, that is doing well.
If he has PC3200, and you are stuck at 180FSB, then you have a problem...

If your friend has the PC2700, I would suggest maxing the voltage (2.8 or 2.9v) and try the timings at 2.5-4-4-7 or 3-4-4-8 and see if you get any farther.

If he has the PC3200, then only better cooling and/or more voltage to the CPU will get him any farther, if at all.
Some CPU's just aren't all that great for overclocking, it was well known that the early versions of this CPU hit the wall at 180FSB, and many other later ones do the same. Even the Mobile versions have some duds, some people never get past 2.3ghz on water, while others hit 2.7ghz on air..

You also might see if the L-12 mod might help, it only works on ABIT motherboards.

pffft you guys make such a big deal about voltage, I have pushed K6-2's from 400 to 550 @ 2.8 volts, from 2.0 stock, heatspreader mod, Volcano 6 Cu on 60 to 80MM adapter and an 80MM Tornado. Idle temps were a stable 46*C

And you are worried about 1.65 to 1.9 on air?

j-dogg is not responsible for any damage caused to your computer from overclocking.

OK who's been pulling yor leg dood...
package color or the laminated part of the CPU has nothing to do with being a barton or a T-bred core.
On the barton core the L-2 cache is 512kb double that of a T-bred.
Bartons are designed to run at 1.65 vCore and T-breds are anywhere from 1.5 to 1.65vCore depending on the stepping...Do your homework dood cause the green/brown thing ain't gonna fly here...

Well...I'm out of suggestions, 1.9v core and L-12 mod, and thats about it..

you might have just hit the wall..

Only other thing to do is swap yer CPU for his and see if it does it on his board and Memory combo..

Every barton 2500+ (158 to date) that I've had has been able to overclock to 11x200 on stock voltage.

Check the FSB CLK jumper to make sure its on 166/200, load optimized BIOS defaults, raise chipset and ram voltage by .2v, and try selecting 3200+ from the drop down instead of manually selecting 11x200.
You should NEVER require anything above stock core voltage to run a 2500+ @ 3200+
