| Apex Techie Wannabe | Firstly hello, read a few of the posts and thought you lot know what ur talking about, so thought I'd give you a try. I'm relatively new to overclocking, although not a complete n00b. Anyway, heres my problem. I've built a new pc, msi k7n2 delta ilsr and an amd 3200+ 2 sticks of 512 pc3200 (cheap ****). I had to up the vcore th 1.65 to get it running stable but otherwise its running fine. I let it bed in for about 6-8 weeks then thought I'd see if I can squeeze a little more speed form it. I dont really want to touch the fsb as its running at 200mhz, with the ram in sync(dual channel). I'm pretty happy with that and it being cheap ram ( pqi I think) I dont expect too much from it. So I thought I'd just up the cpu multiplier from the stock 11, well thats where it ended really....... I tried 11.5, but it gave me no change at all, which I thought was odd and 12 wont post at all!?!?! I've tried upping the vcore all the way up to the 1.8v max, nothing... Temps are fine, around 40-45 so I dont think thats a problem, running a zalman flower copper hs. Could it be the psu as its a pretty cheap one (atlas 350w) Here are a few of the settings, can go into more detail if you need it. mem timings: 8,4,4,2.5 (stock) vcore: 1.7 dram 2.7 not sure what else to incude so I'll leave it at that. Basically I wanted to see if I could push the multiplier up a tad, 12, 13 maybe and was expecting it to work and just have to keep an eye on the temps. Oh well.... Thanks in advance for any help u can offer. | |

| believe it or not, your dram timings and voltages are just as...if not even more...important than your cpu settings and voltages... first thing i would do is bring that dram voltage (especially on dual 512mb sticks in DC) up to about 2.8 or 9... leave your cas at 2.5, 3-3-6 for everything else with that cpu, aim for about 2.5ghz (12.5 x 200mhz) at a good 1.8 vcore at first...get stable before you have to make a huge fall so that you will at least know the safe place you can get right back to...lets call it the "ratchet" effect...you gotta turn it a little before you get it to click, and then you cant go back... in BIOS, disable anything with the words SHADOWING, CACHING (not CACHE), SPECTRUM, WRITE, and CALIBRATION in their destiptions if u need more help, let me know, i used to have an almost identical board and have had TONS of experience overclocking it... | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Ok, I cant up the dram above 2.7, not an option in the bios. How would I go about this? Have changed the mem timings to the figures u suggested and it seems fine, although I havent tried upping the multilier yet as I dont think it will post as before. Whats next??? | |

What version of the board do you have? the Memory voltages might be different on early rev 1 or 1.2, look on the board and see if it say Rev 2, that is the one that OC's like crazy. Is the Bios up to date? As far as changing the Multiplier goes, The newer version CPU's are locked by AMD, just like Intel, you have to find out when it was manufactured. Around week 39 of last year is when they started locking them.. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
