| Hello! Im kinda new to overclocking, but I was wondering, when I put the CPU into my computer, it runs fine, but it does not recognize what kind of processor it is - just says 'unknown CPU type - #### Mhz' Is this normal? Also, A fellow I was talking to said that the laptop chips used less voltage, but ran faster on more voltage, so I was wondering what voltage to increase the proc. to? thx, 1337 | ||

hey welcome abord!yeh the barton mobile 2500 is a far greater overclocker than its older brother. some tech sites have clocked it to beyond 2.5 ghz (about 200-300 more than normal bartons). obviously theres the side of air and water cooling but thats an idea for you. you mobo may not id amd mobile proc's, but hey if it boots, and plays i wouldnt be bothered

| Lokie's Personal WU-Hoe | The only time you should increase the voltage is when you're having stability problems, and if that doesn't work, then back down your RAM timings. If everything is stabile, then you have nothing to worry about...but if you want to clock it further, then you're going to have to mess with the voltage settings. Just to be safe, don't OC the processor beyond a 1.85Vcore limit if you're not running less than ~50C load...unless you have the cash to replace it. That's just my opinion, I'm sure others will say different though. | |

I would not worry if it recognizes the CPU type, Could be a Bios update, but it's not realy important in the end. The default voltage on these chips is supposed to be 1.45v and that is the reason these chips OC better than the standard 1.6v chips. They are tested during manufacturing to find the best cores that run at low voltage, and are rated up to 90c, wich is what a laptop needs... Mobile 2500+CPU's need around 1.7v for 2.4GHZ. and 1.8v for 2.5GHZ, that is about the max for air cooling. If you have extremely good air cooling or watercooling, it takes 1.9v for 2.6GHZ, and 2v for 2.7GHZ I would try to reach 2.5ghz with 400FSB (200 in the Bios) and the 12.5x multiplier, 1.8v max. If your Motherboard is up for it, a higher FSB would work better also, I have mine running mine at over 520FSB Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 28-March-04 at 06:11 PM..
