| So this is really quite common, amazing little CPU it's proving to be. lol ![]() Voltages are untouched, running stable, just played CoD4 for about 1.5 hours, restarted (just fine) and BIOS reported CPU temp at 26 degrees Celsius, also using stock cooling. AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ (1.9Ghz) Brisbane core Socket AM2 55.99USD at newegg.com, far exceeds the price in performance. Last edited by OnyxIce; 22-January-08 at 11:25 PM. Reason: More info... | ||

| Dang, that is one awesome little proc for the price. Did you just buy it or have you had it for a while? | ||

| playing a game does not show stability you should run Prime95 for a less 1/2 hour Torture test your CPU with Prime95 My 3000+ (1.8) can do just a bit over 2.8 GHZ but noting over 2.6 GHZ prime stable your temp 26c is idle & that doesn't means much , the one you got to check for is when you're at full. best way to do this is download Everest Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management (trial) install it & run it you'll see you cpu temp then let it run & start Prime95 you'll be able to see you max temp at full BTW : good overclock what ever it's prime stable or not Edit : Forgot to link for Prime95 guide & software downlaod Last edited by goodman123; 23-January-08 at 12:33 PM. | ||

| My 3800+ X2 has been doing 2.8GHz prime stable (remeber to run at least two instances, and set the affinity in task manager) Or you could just run Orthos.... Anyhow, for 60$ its fun isn't it. 65nm is helping you out a bit too, and some performance can come from it with appropriate ram and voltage increases. Let me know a few things about your board and memory, and i could walk you through getting it stable at 2,8GHz. with higher mem clocks too. EDIT: avg OC is 2854 @ hwbot hwbot.org - Browse Hardware. Out of 63 entrys... | ||

| What would you need to know? And personally, as of now with this hardware I'm not too interested in Prime/Orthos, it's running alright, and I don't really wanna' give the time to sit there ya' know? lol Unless you can make some good points to convince me otherwise, I dunno'. | ||

well what about playing a game for an hour or so & then just when you went true a though level your game/pc freeze before having time to save your game? ![]() or your start burning important data/video on DVD & then just before it finish windows freeze or the burn not complete or installing a software that keep freezing or give you an error , etc... ![]() there is lots of reasons to make a good stable overclock , better have less overclock & be stable then higher one & be unstable but do as you will it's your pc after all ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by goodman123; 23-January-08 at 08:53 PM.

| I want that video card, and I play Call of Duty 4 online for a few hours a day, every day (more than not at least, I try to. lol) no crashes, computers usually on... Temps stay low, I don't monitor in game but check as soon as I can after gaming. | ||

Well, if that proves instability, wouldn't that not happening prove stability? Even in the slightest? lol

No because just playing a game is hardly the most strenuous task you can do with your PC. I would strongly suggest running stress tests for around 8 hours to make sure it is 100% stable. If not you run the risk of random lock ups here and there, regardless of what you're running. Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't.

| Just for the record I was not at all trying to imply that it not happening yet means it wouldn't. lol Just saying, games not crashing shows games not crashing. But yeah, you're point has very well been proven. [Thu Jan 24 01:02:55 2008] Self-test 1024K passed! [Thu Jan 24 01:17:58 2008] Self-test 896K passed! Some Voltage could easily help that, and a tempature check every now and then with some increased voltage, and fully loaded. Those types of things could help out a bit. What I was asking for earlier, the motherboard make and model, the ram specs and make, and the cooling system. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I remember my Opteron 146 that ran at 3GHz consistently. Had to feed it a whole lot of juice to do it, but it ran at 2.8 on a daily basis near stock. Just unloaded it on eBay for $35. My only X2 chip I have in a rig now is my 4400. I can hit 2.8GHz with it but it isn't stable until I drop it down to around 2.5GHz. Doesn't really matter since that is our home finance computer now and it doesn't take a whole lot of power to run Quicken. | ||

| FiveFig: The reason I can keep my voltage so low, I'm sure is largely due to the 65nm core. But just off of that, considering I'm running 2.8Ghz (at least close to stable, I can game) I would HIGHLY recommend this CPU. lol I keep thinking of building another rig like this, doin' some OC and case modding... nice chunk of change could be added to my pocket. =D | ||

running your pc at 2.8 not prime stable is not a good idea , it's ok to run benches in all but for daily use i wont do that if was not stable at that speed if i were you i'll find the max stable overclock & keep it there , but i guess you'll have to learn by your mistakes after a few BSOD or lost data ,etc... (no offences) ![]() Last edited by goodman123; 27-January-08 at 06:38 PM.
