| Ok Guys I wanna overclock my processor but im really new to this. I know that the multiplier and voltage need to be changed. I read Necros guide and still am confused. I tried going into the BIOS but could not find anything that was the multiplier. Am I missing something? Oh yeah I have an AMD 3500+ With a BFG NForce 4 mobo. Then I downloaded Rightmark CPU Clock Utility and am trying that. I found the Advanced CPU settings but have no idea what this part means " ACPI power states Settings" there is a drop down menu so you can select which state to view or modify I just dont know whats what. The choices are: C2 (Stop Grant), C3 (Sleep), CO FID/VID change, S1 (POS), S3 (STR), CO Throttling, S4/S5 (STD/SOFF), C1 (Halt). Can someone please help me figure out what these mean? And on the slim chance is there anyone who can walk me through this? Thank You. | ||

| Okay first off, ACPI isnt overclocking its a power mode that helpssave power (especially in moniters), but you dont have to worry about that. So you want to overclock, first you need to think like this: -Most CPU's these days dont haetoo many OC settings involved with the multipliers. Only high end CPU's have the unlocked multiplier anyhow. -The Front side bus is what your going to start with normally. -Voltage is only increased after you find the voltages highest FSB -When begining start with small FSB jumps, like 5 FSB and test stability each time (OCCT, found under necro's ultimate links) -Once the FSB won't go up 5 and stay stable, try 1 at a time until you find the max stable FSB at the stock voltage. -With this number you can then figure out how high you need to set the voltage next. Now that i went over that, lets do this, give me you motherboard model, and i'm going to assume you have windows XP. Also what type of ram are you using somesettings for them might need changed too. | ||

| Ok I have a BFG Socket 939 Motherboard i'm not sure of the model number but I found the same one on ebay eBay: BFG NFORCE 4 Ultra SKT 939 PCI-E Motherboard (item 260108408187 end time Apr-22-07 20:50:23 PDT) and I'm running 2GB of PNY PC3200 memory ( I got it at cost at work, I know it sucks). I hope this helps. | ||

| Apex Advanced Techie | ok so you have an A64 3500. so it runs at 2.2ghz stock. That means that the clock is probably 200 and the multiplier is 11 (200x11=2200, get it?). So what you want to do is very slowly increase the front side bus number (the 200). The multiplier (the 11) is going to be locked. So try 205x11 and then benchmark using prime95 or some other intensive program. If the program runs smoothly without any errors or crashes, your pc is stable at 205x11. If it doesnt, then you need to increase the cpu voltage ever so slightly. Then proceed to 210x11, rinse and repeat. Your ram is going to hit a wall fairly quickly since increasing your fsb clock to 205 makes your ram become ddr410 with the fsb to ram clock ratio of 1:1, trying decreasing your Ram to a slower speed and then overclocking if you want to get farther. Good luck. I'm going to go ahead and put my disclaimer stamp here. I'm just making general statements on how to overclock. If you somehow manage to ruin any of your components, myself or anyone at pcapex should not be held responsible. Proceed at your own risk! | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | here is a good guide for OCing, i am sure there is one here but i have not seen it. there is also a good one at hardfourm.com and diy-street.com this is the best and most thorough guide i have seen Other - DFI Overclocking Guide - PDF download! (updated - zip + rar) - DIY-Street Forums download the pdf. it is from the old DFI-Streets.com it works with any nvidia A64 board even though some things on your BFG might be called something different and or the bios will have less options. read the guides and they post some questions you have | |
