Tri-SLI possible with lower-end cards too?

Tri-SLI, or 3-way SLI, is expected to arrive in just a few weeks. We've seen a couple of slides showing of the setup, but also actual benchmarks with three GeForce 8800 GTX running together. However this setup has required a special dual-lane three-slot SLI bridge which would only work with the two top cards; GeForce 8800 GTX and 8800 Ultra. However it seems that Tri-SLI will also be possible with lower-end cards. In a story published at Xbit labs, Jen-Hsun Huang, the chief executive of NVIDIA, says that Tri-SLI will also work with the 8800 GT, which has only one SLI bridge connector.

We were surprised when we first heard that Tri-SLI would be exclusive to GeForce 8800 GTX and Ultra, but hopefully those sources were wrong. Running three quite affordable GeForce 8800 GT makes more sense than three 8800 GTX.
