Default Doom 3 (its a bit late)

Hey I know its a bit late, this game has been out for years now and is starting to look a bit dated but I found it for £10 in my local computer exchange (CEX) and had to give it a try.

I was a bit dubious at first becuase although I remember the hype about it back in the day, the reviews saying the graphics were second to none and ultra realistic I have also read amny reviews over the years stating how boring and repetitive the game is.
But I decided to try it with an open mind and was pretty impressed, although its getting quite old the graphics were ok, certainly alot better than other games i've played from that period and the abiance of the game is almost as good as F.E.A.R with all the dark corners and ambiant sounds.
One let down is the less than well designed Menu system which seems to suffer from mouse lag and is basically boring to look at. The options available to configure the graphics are a bit limited but still better than some new games but don't seem to actually make a differnece in game, to me it looked the same at 800 by 600 as it did at 1024 by 768 and anti-aliasing did nothing.
This is solved by downloading a graphics update mod (available from the link below), this seems to improve every aspect of the game and makes it look pretty damn good even by todays standard.

I've written a file explaining how to update the graphics as the dude who wrote the mod doesn't appear to have very good english.

Overall the game is very good, with a great atmosphere and thanks to the mod equally good graphics its well worth anothe rplay if you've got it collecting dust on a shelf somewhere.

I'd give this a 8/10
