the most renouned is phpbb (php bulletin board,
www.phpbb.com)..this software is easy to setup, use, admin, and also integrates well into phpnuke (a cms (content management system)) as well as a gallery (gallery.menalto.com)..
all these are highly reccommended installed on linux, but mine (
www.eclipsedbydesign.net) is working fine on a windows 2k3 box (took some tweaking, but it works
)..all these integrate with most SQL servers, but the better one i've found is mysql (
www.mysql.com)..the best part, all the above mentioned are free!!
