Default GMC Rotary Multitool

Hopefully this will be ok here, as its not really that much of a review because I didn't buy, or need the tool. Anywho here goes.

I work at Lowe's, and at work today I noticed we got a new rotary tool in, it is made by GMC, which stands for Global Machinery Company. Never heard of GMC? Neither had I until I started working at Lowes. About 18 months ago, we started getting this new brand of tool in. Very cheap price, very cheap overall feel and look of the tool, and I'm not much of a cheap tool kinda guy although in their defense, I have never personally seen a GMC tool returned as defective. IMHO you get what you pay for, and in the long run cheap tools cost more than expensive ones. So a year and a half go by, and we constantly get new tools in, and clearance them out sometimes less than a month later. As I was saying we got this new rotary tool in, so I deciced to do a little comparing to dremel.

The kitcomes with the tool, a case, a smaller case inside the tool for the bits themselves, and 40 accessories. The tool sports a 1.0A motor, with variable speed that ranges from 8,000 - 30,000 rpms.

The closest dremel kit we sell at lowes again was the tool, case and 40 accessories. The dremel tool has a 1.15A motor, with only 2 speeds at 12,000 and 35,000 rpms.

Ok so here comes the good part. The GMC kit, model no. MX372 is only $19.97, where as the Dremel kit, model no. 2850-2 sells for $49.97!

Unfortunately the tool has its down falls. The tool does fit all dremel bits, but the threads on the chucks are different, so it doesn't fit the nicer dremel chuck no. 4486 that allows you to change bits without changing collets. The other bummer is that the plastic threads at the end that allow you to screw on accessories doesn't fit the dremel accessories.

All in all this seems like a great tool, perfect for the budget conscience modder!
