I don't think
HD-DVD or Blu-Ray will 'win'
Here are a few things that a consumer will have to do in order to take full advantage of the new formats..
- The formats respective player (rough costs cited between 500-over 2000+ at this time)
- A 1080p compatible HDTV ( Cheapest one you can find is just over 2200)
- A constant internet connection to the player
Here are some problems consumers may face with the new formats...
- You'll have to buy the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc, which have been reported to cost anywhere from 30-45 dollars for the movie (most DVDs retail between 14-23 dollars)
- Unless they come with dual lasers, the players are NOT compatible with current DVDs.
At this point in time, there is no clear cut winner. Sure, BRD has a huge sponsorship, but in the end, its up to whether or not people buy the player and the things necessary to take full advantage of it.
And, all I have to say to the person who reported the story "No $h|t Sherlock." You really think the Sony CEO would say "Nah man,
HD-DVD is gonna own us hardcore."
