Default Time keeps on slippin'

Well gang, I know I haven't been around much lately. I've been busy as hell, but I recently returned to martial arts after four months of being away (my hardest classes at college finally ended, with my 3.8 GPA standing), and when I had come in, I was about middle-rank in the class. When I came back after four months, I'm now the lowest ranking member in the dojo (small classes, but none-the-less).

This was a little hard to swallow and I felt a little ashamed I had been away so long. One of my classmates had gone up two belts since I had left and it seems like I'm seeing new colors around everyone else's waists except mine.

This kind of direct example leads me to post this quick (as I've got to get my butt out the door to work in about five mintues and I've got two articles of clothing on... and I won't say which two) guide to spending time:

1. For every day you're not doing something towards your goals, or if you're not progressing at all, you really only have yourself to blame for not being where you want to be.

2. If you get knocked off the horse, get back on. Old Japanese proverb "Fall down nine times, stand up ten".

3. If you think about how short a month, two or even six is in the grand scheme of things, where you are, and where you could be are very different things.

4. Effort expended becomes effort rewarded in most cases.

5. What have you done today? Every "today" turns into a yesterday. This means that if you work out, diet, exersize, take classes, or whatever... every day is one less you have to go, or one day further into reaching your goal.

6. Don't get discouraged if someone is ahead of you. Some people learn specific things easier than others, drop weight faster, or whatever. The point of most goals is for YOU to achieve something, not put yourself in a position to fail because someone else is achieving their goals faster.

7. Work! As in work for your goals... (or, I'm now late for if I don't end this post!)

8. Things may seem hard, but people adapt. Create a routine and the flow of time will carry you towards your goal.

9. Remember your responsibilities (like not being late for work!)

10. Take breaks when you need to, but never quit! It's when you actual decide to stop trying you've actually failed.

Gah, five minutes late out the door!!!
